AUDIENCE BASED PRESENTATIONS
Keesha is known as an excellent speaker, and will be happy to share her experiences with diverse groups. These programs contain topics areas that represent some of my skills in working in the community. The presentations range form 1 1/2 to 4 hours. All participants will receive material from the training and will be involved in active participation and discussion groups. STORYTELLING Keesha will read a story from one of her six publications and lead a discussion on the implications of the stories focusing on drugs, gangs, sexuality, teen pregnancy, homelessness, racism and death. Audience: Adults and youth ages 5 12.
REVIEWING MY VALUES The facilitator will provide a hands on creative arts group activity with 15-30 children in a classroom setting. The participants will learn about the Nguzo Saba (7 principles of Kwanzaa) and effective ways to utilize the principles in their home, school and community. Audience: School aged youth 7-12 or adolescents 13+. EACH ONE TEACH ONE The facilitator will provide a session strictly for educators who have the desire to become more culturally sensitive. Participants shall explore new strategies to make learning a fun, culturally enriched experience. Audience: Educators/Community Advocates.
TESTIMONIES OF FAITH Keesha will openly discuss her personal testimony and the challenges which occurred through her life and how she made decisions and coped with life based on sound values. Audience: Adults, youth, adolescents.
KNITTING THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS Parents attend a support group discussion detailing ways to effectively parent African American children. Review of statistics, parenting trends, dilemma and strategies for success. Audience: Parents. THE AUTHOR IN ME Ms. McMillian will discuss how she began her writing career. What obstacles she encountered; The benefit of self publishing; What's needed after you have completed the writing; Marketing production, sponsors, copyright, printing, etc. Hands on activity for children and adults. Audience: Individuals who want to write or publish materials. THE CULTURAL ART OF BRAIDING Keesha will teach participants the cultural art of braiding. They will learn about the history of braiding and the skill of braiding and how to care for their hair. New techniques and current styles. Manual provided. Hands-on learning practicing the Nguzo Saba principle. Kuumba meaning creativity. Audience: School aged children 7-12, adolescents 13-18, adults 19 and over.
DRUGS ARE NOT FOR ME A detailed discussion on the use and abuse of substances and how they affect today’s youth, families and communities. The youth will explore their own values and belief in making the choice not to use substances. Audience: School aged children 5-12, adolescents 13-18. Children will learn the skill of conflict mediation how to resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner. Group discussion on peace relations, racism, power, control and the process of choice and decision making. Audience: School aged children 5-12, adolescents 13-18.
THE CHILDREN SPEAK An opportunity for children to practice the skill of reading and writing. Children will experience the power in speaking out about their concerns by developing an age appropriate newsletter addressing societal concerns. WORKSHOPS KLM Culturally Conscious representatives** will also present workshops for interested groups. These workshops can be tailored to any population upon the completion of a need’s assessment.
